Ateneo Municipal De Manila

Ateneo
Ateneo Municipal de Manila previously called Escuela Pia or Charity School of Manila, founded in 1817. The government placed it in the supervision of Jesuits. The name of the school became Ateneo Municipal and then, Ateneo de Manila.

June 1872, Jose was sent to Manila to study in Ateneo. When Dr. Jose Rizal was 11 years old, Rizal entered the Ateneo Municipal de Manila. He earned excellent marks in subjects like philosophy, physics, chemistry, and natural history. At this school, he read novels; wrote prize-winning poetry (and even a melodrama—“Junto al Pasig”); and practiced drawing, painting, and clay modeling, all of which remained lifelong interests for him.

This is the original location of Ateneo Municipal de Manila. It is located at Anda cor. Sta. Lucia St., Intramuros, Manila. When we got there, I've realized that Dr. Jose Rizal is a strong and independent man because even he's only 11 years old, he's strong enough to live alone without his parents. He only boarded at very strict Dona Pepay de Ampero's boarding house at No. 6 Magallanes St. It doesn't matter the far distance with his family, tho Rizal is the most brilliant Atenean, "The Pride of the Jesuits" and obtained the hight grades in all subjects.

"How fervently I went to the chapel of the Jesuit to hear mass, what fervent prayers I raised to God" - Rizal's First day in Ateneo
